On April 26th, Maryland will hold its primary election. While a lot of attention is rightly paid to the presidential race, Maryland Republicans will also be voting for nominees for U.S. Senate to replace the retiring Barbara Mikulski.
I'm writing to express my strong support for Kathy Szeliga (pronounced Sha-lay-ga) for US Senate. I've known Kathy for over a decade. Her father served in the Army, so Kathy grew up all over the country but returned to Maryland to raise her family. She is a wife, mother, grandmother, and she and her husband Mark own a small business in Baltimore County where they call home. While spending several years at home raising her two sons, Kathy got her education degree and taught elementary school. After many years of activism, Kathy ran for the House of Delegates in 2010 and won. She is now one of the Republican leaders in the House, working shoulder to shoulder with Governor Hogan to change Maryland.
Kathy Szeliga has a proven track record of fighting for us in Annapolis. For example, Kathy was a key leader in the successful legislative battle to repeal the Rain Tax and has worked to eliminate wasteful government spending practices. She and I have worked together on ways to increase transparency in state government as well.
We've all seen how Washington politicians and DC insiders lose sight of what they are supposed to be doing and not working on behalf of the people who send them to Congress. The worst thing we could do would be to send another establishment politician to the U.S. Senate — and that's all the other side is offering in their primary — two extremely liberal, longtime D.C. insiders.
Kathy Szeliga has proven she can — and will — fight for the people of Maryland and I know she will do the same thing in Washington. That's why I'm respectfully asking Carroll County voters to join me in voting for Kathy in the Republican primary on April 26th and in the November general election.
