On Wednesday the State Board of Public Works approved $1,550,000 in Program Open Space funding for the Westminster Veterans Memorial Park. “I am thankful that Board of Public Works has approved this important funding. This grant will be used to design and engineer this beautiful 32 acre park that honors Carroll County’s veterans and fallen heroes,” said Sen. Ready Justin Ready (R- Carroll). “Delegates Krebs, Rose, Shoemaker and I appreciate the commitment to this important community landmark.”
"Preserving and protecting open space in a balanced way is an important goal that Governor Hogan and the Carroll County Delegation share,” Ready concluded. "This project will be one that benefits our entire community while recognizing the enduring sacrifice that Carroll County veterans have made throughout our nation’s history.
Program Open Space is a program created by DNR in 1969 and uses local funds (collected from local Real Estate Transfer Taxes) to help acquire land to create and improve local recreational areas.
