It’s been a busy political week in the state of Maryland. Following the end of the 2016 session, the 834 bills that passed both houses have now been sent to Governor Hogan for his approval.  The Governor has had three bill signings, with two more scheduled for May 10th and 19th.  For a list of bill signings, click here.   I want to continue to keep you updated on news and events going on both in Carroll County and Annapolis. This update contains information on grant to maintain the Patapsco River, a bridge dedication for Ssgt. James Malachowski, an upcoming Delegation/County Commissioners meeting, a Route 32 survey, events in our area and a traffic alert.

 

40 Acre Easement Grant to Protect Patapsco River

On Wednesday, April 27, 2016, the Board of Public Works approved a request to provide a $157,184 grant to Carroll County from Rural Legacy Funds for the acquisition of a conservation easement in the Upper Patapsco Rural Legacy Area.  The grant will be used to support the acquisition of a 39.86-acre conservation easement on the Ruby Property.  Acquisition of this easement will protect valuable agricultural and forest lands and will provide over 2,300 linear feet of stream buffers along unnamed tributaries to the Patapsco River. The easement will be held by the County Commissioners of Carroll County. 

 

Local Bridge Dedicated to Fallen Marine

The bridge at Route 140 over Liberty Reservoir has been renamed in honor of fallen Marine Staff Sgt. James M. Malachowski.  Please look for the sign as you cross this bridge and remember this American hero and his sacrifice.  Please click here to read the article in the Carroll County Times.

 

Carroll County Legislative Delegation Meeting with Carroll County Commissioners

There will be a meeting of the Carroll County Board of Commissioners, and the Annapolis Delegation on Tuesday, May 3 at 2 pm at the County Office Building.

 

MD 32 Planning Study

The Maryland Department of Transportation is conducting a community survey to include the ideas and recommendations of those who live, work, worship, attend school, shop, and commute on 32 from I-170 to MD 26. To participate in this survey, visit www.MD32Survey.com.

Leadership Carroll is now accepting applications for the Class of 2017. Leadership Carroll is cosponsored by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce and Carroll Community College.
