2024 Election Breakdown
As Election Day 2024 approaches, many people have been reaching out for advice about the offices and ballot questions that we’ll be casting votes on. See the graphic below for who I’m supporting and explanation about the non-partisan School Board race and Constitutional Amendment.
I also wanted to write to you with a comprehensive list of information regarding election day voting in Carroll County, as well as who I’m supporting. Of course, some of you may have already banked your vote through mail in voting, but statistically most people wait until later. Please – be sure you have a plan to vote either early from October 24th-31st or on Election Day, Tuesday November 5th.
Non-Partisan Offices – Board of Education:
Dr. Greg Malveaux & Kristin Zihmer for Board of Education
Although the 2024 Election is the most important election in our lifetimes on a national scale, Carroll County has an extremely important local election that should not be under looked.
Board of Education elections are “non-partisan” meaning that there are not “Republican” or “Democrat” or third party designations by the candidates’ names. But make no mistake, there is a clear choice in this election!
Two conservative Board of Education members, Marsha Herbert and Donna Sivigny, have reached their two-term limit and can not run for re-election. With two open seats, I strongly support and endorse Dr. Greg Malveaux and Kristin Zihmer
Although the Board of Education is considered a non-partisan election, we know that the policy set by the Board of Education impacts the 26,000 students and thousands of teachers, administrators and staff of Carroll County Public Schools. That’s important but – even if you don’t have children in the system – CCPS receives over 50% of Carroll County’s county budget annually. That’s over half your annual county tax dollars and a lot of your state taxes as well! Greg and Kristen will focus on the student’s education and academic achievement first and fight to keep politics, gender ideology and inappropriate subject matter out of the public education system. They also want to support teachers in the classroom by ensuring that administrators are disciplining properly and stopping disruptive behavior from distracting students.

Ballot Initative:
Vote NO on Question 1
Question 1, or the Right to Reproductive Freedom Act, seeks to add a new section to the Declaration of Rights in the Maryland Constitution relating to an individual’s right to reproductive freedom. Although Maryland voters have already made their voices heard on the issue of abortion, this constitutional amendment goes much much further. It would, first of all, not just say that abortion is legal (which it already is in Maryland and was even before Roe vs. Wade passed in 1973) – but it would also potentially strip away health and safety protections surrounding abortion surgeries and abortion centers. It would remove even the (very very limited) protections against partial birth abortion in the state as well.
However, from my perspective, the worst part of Question 1 passing is that it would strip parents of their fundamental right to be informed and direct their child’s healthcare. Children of any age would have the constitutional right to consent to abortions, puberty blockers, opposite sex hormones, gender surgeries and more, all without parental consent (and your taxes and health insurance premiums will help pay for this).
This has no place in our state Constitution. Vote NO on Question 1.

I prefer voting in person and I know many people agree BUT no matter what, your vote is absolutely critical – if you have any reason to believe you won’t be able to vote in person – please DO request your mail-in ballot by clicking here: https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/onlinemailinrequest/InstructionsStep1
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and for allowing me to share my thoughts and who I’m supporting in the 2024 Election. Whether you agree or disagree with every selection, it is wonderful that we live in America where we vote for our leaders. Please reach out with any questions or if I can be helpful to you.
