ALERT: Sign Petition to Restore County Authority Over Solar Developments on Ag Land
Maryland farmers and citizens are taking a stand against SB 931, the so-called “Renewable Energy Certainty Act.” This bill was rushed through the legislature, putting solar developers ahead of local communities and stripping counties of their zoning authority over large-scale energy projects. It would allow up to 5% of a county’s agricultural land to be used for large-scale commercial solar development – and that’s ON TOP of “community solar” projects that are already outside of county zoning control. I fought against this bill and voted “No”.
The Farmers Alliance for Rural Maryland, a nonpartisan conservation group, has put together a petition to put SB 931 on the 2026 Maryland ballot, letting the voters decide. I am extremely supportive of this petition, and hope that you will take a moment to sign it before the deadline this Sunday. The reason the deadline is so quick is because Governor Moore waited until the last possible day he could and then signed it.
In order to sign the petition, you must – carefully – follow the instructions by clicking here. You can print out the official petition by clicking here.
Please take a moment to click the link above, and sign this petition by following the underlined instructions above. For more information you can visit the Farmers Alliance for Rural Maryland by clicking here.
Thank you for being a vocal, active citizen and making your voice heard. Together, we can fight back to protect local control over ALL large-scale energy projects.
