Ready Report: Calling for Accountability, Suicide Prevention, Suppoting Local Control in Education & More
I hope you and your family are doing well and enjoying the start of fall. This has been an incredibly difficult time for our country and locally as well on a number of levels. Just a few days ago, North of us in York County, PA, three police officers were killed by a domestic abuser as they attempted to help someone he was stalking. These are difficult times and I know you join me in praying for those families as well as Charlie Kirk’s wife and children in the aftermath of his assassination.
Senate Republican Leaders Call for Accountability After Series of Damaging Audits Under Moore Administration ->
Here in Maryland we are calling out the brazen mismanagement of Governor Moore and his administration as fresh audit findings show a shocking disregard for basic controls on spending in the Department of Transportation and also exposure of juvenile foster care children to homes that apparently had registered sex offenders working there (!). Just yesterday, Senate GOP Leader Steve Hershey and I put out the following statement:
Senate Minority Leader Senator Steve Hershey and Senate Minority Whip Justin Ready today called out the alarming, ongoing trend of mismanagement and failure under the leadership of Governor Wes Moore, following three damaging state audits that have come to light in the past two weeks.
If you are interested in reading them – Here are the direct links to them individually.

My portion of the statement is here:
“Taxpayers have a right to expect their dollars will be spent responsibly, but even more importantly, Marylanders must be able to trust that their government will safeguard children and those who cannot protect themselves. These audits show a disturbing lack of oversight and leadership at the highest levels of the Moore Administration. This is not about partisanship – this is about whether the Moore Administration is doing its job for the people of Maryland. Right now, the answer is clearly no.”
Our 13 member Senate GOP Caucus is working on legislative remedies for the upcoming Session to hold the executive branch more accountable and strengthen oversight of state agencies. You can see why Maryland faces a massive budget deficit when you observe the Moore Administration managing our money and the bureaucracy. Enough is truly enough.
Suicide Prevention Month
September is Suicide Prevention Month where community groups, health organizations and families of both those who’ve lost their lives by committing suicide or are survivors of attempts work together to raise awareness of the tools and resources available for anyone who is dealing with difficult circumstances, challenges in their mental health and especially – hotlines for anyone who is tempted to harm themselves.
If you are struggling with feelings of depression and considering suicide or harming yourself, or know someone who is – please dial 988 any time 24-7 to be put in touch with services and resources to help you. Let me be clear – this world is better with YOU IN IT. God loves you and we all care about you too – even if we don’t even know you yet.
Ready in the Press:
Rachel Morin and now Dacara Thompson – two young women in Maryland who were murdered by criminals who were known illegal immigrants that had been arrested previously but not deported. Enough is enough, Maryland sanctuary practices must end no matter what county or city is engaging in them! I joined Fox 45 earlier this week to discuss this further, which you can watch by clicking here.
Additionally, last week I joined Fox 45 to discuss Governor Moore’s announcement that he will seek re-election, but specifically to discuss how his policies have drastically increased energy prices. You can watch that video by clicking here.
Finally, I was interviewed on WBAL Radio 1090 AM by C4 & Bryan Nehman about Frederick City’s mayor Michael O’Connor putting aside tax dollars to use for immigration legal fees for illegal aliens facing deportment. This is a waste of taxpayer dollars and it should stop. Here’s the interview: https://www.wbal.com/fredericks-20k-immigration-legal-fund-called-absolute-waste-by-state-senator-justin-ready-michael-oconner
District 5 Delegation Supporting Local Control – Calls on MSDE to Reverse Bad Regulation:
Our District 5 Delegation sent a letter to State Superintendent Dr. Carey Wright and Maryland State Board of Education strongly objected to the recent emergency regulation and proposed permanent regulation that would allow the State Superintendent unilateral and authority to effectively halt any local Board of Education decision while that local decision is being appealed to the State Board – including personnel decisions.
We are urging MSDE to immediately withdraw the emergency regulation and pull their proposed regulation granting the State Superintendent unlimited stay authority. While Carroll & Frederick County School Boards don’t have a decision currently effected, this is a key issue for protecting local control for duly elected local boards of education throughout Maryland.
