ICYMI: Good News – Carroll Co. Budget Approved – Proposed Property Tax Increase Eliminated!

Over the past few weeks the Carroll County Commissioners have been debating final passage of the county’s FY2025 Operating Budget. The preliminary budget included a 2 cent property tax increase, which would have been the first tax hike in many years. This was partly due to costs that the state government has forced down on counties that I have tried to stop or ease, including the Kirwan Education Blueprint mandate. Thankfully the commissioners, with Commissioner Joe Vigliotti (District 1) leading the charge, worked out additional savings and maneuvers in the budget to be able to eliminate this property tax hike. Also important – they restrained overall budget growth to just .4% so that is also good news. You can read the county government’s press release on the FY2025 budget by clicking here.

In the Community…

Last week, I attended awards ceremonies recognizing the Class of 2024 and will be hitting others this week. On Thursday, was my honor to be at Francis Scott Key High School in the morning and at Liberty & Century High Schools for their awards ceremony where I was pleased to give out six Senatorial scholarships to great students. It was also amazing to see nine students honored at FSK for their decisions to serve our country in the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army & United States Air Force. Congratulations to the Class of 2024!
