Ready Report: MD Supreme Court Rules, NFIB Endorsement & More…

I hope you and your family enjoyed the long holiday weekend and spent quality time with one another. Below is an update including information regarding the Maryland Supreme Court’s ruling on the on-going congressional redistricting fight.

Maryland Supreme Court Rules on Congressional Redistricting Fight – WBAL Interview

Last week, the Maryland Supreme Court ruled that, although the language “is misleading and therefore violates due process requirements,” Question 3— the proposed ballot question that could set new standards for the way congressional maps are drawn in Maryland—can remain on ballots with slight language changes.

This ruling by the Maryland Supreme Court is disappointing and very concerning. How can a General Assembly action that violates an established law surrounding ballot initiatives along with putting what the court acknowledges was a deceptive wording be something that the Court simply makes an adjustment to and allows to go forward? This Court is aiding and abetting the deceptive behavior of our state’s one-party supermajority.

The General Assembly failed to follow the very election law passed by a unanimous bipartisan vote – the court has cast this violation aside. Even with the Court’s changes to the question language, the ballot initiative does not explain the practical consequences of this amendment passing, that it removes protections under the Maryland Declaration of rights for citizens in regards to redistricting, giving Annapolis politicians sole power. The only way to stop this now is for voters to reject this power-and-rights grab by voting down Question 3 at the ballot box in November and I look forward to campaigning actively to defeat it. If you would like to engage with an organization that will be fighting AGAINST Question 3 – go to www.ProtectMDVotes.org.

I joined WBAL 1090 AM’s Bryan Nehman and Bruce Elliot, who was sitting in for C4, to discuss all of this further. You can watch the full interview by clicking here.

Ready Endorsed by National Federation of Independent Businesses –

Recently, I was honored to be endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) – they represent tens of thousands of small, independent businesses in the United States and hundreds in Maryland. The only pro-business group who’s positions on issues are established directly by and for their members, I appreciate working with them standing up for policies that will help job creators prosper and – often – we are opposing destructive regulations, taxes and mandates that harm their ability to grow, invest and hire. We have to make Maryland more business friendly if we’re going to turn around our private sector economy and I look forward to continuing working with NFIB.

Maryland Prepares to Launch “FAMLI” Program – A New Payroll Tax on Employees and Job Creators:

A new payroll tax in Maryland is coming January 2027 – it’s another thing that punishes employees and workers with the promise of some paid time off if you qualify, but you’ll be paying all the time. Even if an employer already offers paid time off for family and medical leave, there is no opt-out available for employees.

Join me for last Campaign Fundraiser before Election – September 21st:

The 2026 Election is so important to the future of our state. We are at a major crossroads – I know you agree. Governor Wes Moore and the Annapolis liberal establishment have rammed through over 300 tax and fee increases but refused to do much of anything to slow down the rate of growth of government. I’m not giving up! But – with this crucial election season underway, and with facing opposition myself from a liberal public sector union activist – I want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to protect our home turf.

That’s why I want to personally invite you to my Campaign Kickoff and Annual Fall Family Fundraiser on Monday, September 21st from 5:30-7:30 PM at Island Greene Family Fun Center in Westminster.

Tickets are $50 per person and sponsorships are also available for $2000, 1000, $500, or $300. Children under 18 are free! My family and I hope you can join us.

It is an honor to represent you in the Maryland Senate. As always, feel free to reach out to my office anytime with questions or concerns. Please be sure to follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter/X for the most up-to-date information.
