Ready Report: MD’s Cost of Living, Thank You Haven Shoemaker & Event Thursday…

Over the weekend, I took some time to reflect on and remember the ultimate sacrifice that so many Americans made on D-Day – which we commemorated on Friday. Let us never forget the courage it took to step out of those carriers and sacrifice their lives to fight evil. God bless them and God bless America.

Ready in the Press

Fox45 – Kirwan Blueprint still the biggest driver of budget deficits in the out years for Maryland. I predicted that it would need to be adjusted. We need the Democratic supermajority in the General Assembly and Governor Moore to take further action. The governor did put forward at least some changes, but they were largely watered down. More adjustments, including spreading out mandated spending increases over longer period and more flexibility for local governments and boards of education are desperately needed – along with a change in focus towards outcomes and accountability not just how much is spent. I participated in an interview with Fox 45 where I discuss this issue further, which you can watch by clicking here.

Maryland Matters – Another issue I am closely monitoring is the cost of energy in Maryland. Although democrats in Annapolis spent much of the 2025 legislative session talking about lowering energy prices, they did not go far enough to address the supply issue that our state now faces. You can read more about why the cost of energy is so high by clicking here.

Thank You State’s Attorney Haven Shoemaker

Last week, my good friend, our Carroll County State’s Attorney Haven Shoemaker announced that he would not be running again in 2026 and would be retiring. Haven has done a great job as our State’s Attorney and before that serving our county in a number of positions. He’s been a true friend and counselor to me for many years and he will truly be missed in service, but I know he’ll be finishing these last 18 months on the job strong – fighting to protect our families and keep our community safe.

Ready in the Community

Over the last several weeks, I have been attending High School Senior Award Ceremonies in Carroll County to present graduating students with scholarships. Many graduating seniors across Carroll County were awarded with the 2025 Senatorial Scholarship, and it brings me great joy to be able to present them in person. Congratulations to those who were selected, and also to the entire graduating class of 2025.
