Ready Report: MPRP Public Meeting, Last Days of Carroll County Fair & More…
I’ve got several event notifications and an “in case you missed it” update on Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project below – I hope you and your family are having a good summer as we pray for our country and work to support and protect our community…
MPRP Public Meeting – w/Carroll Delegation & County Commissioners – August 22nd
The Board of Commissioners (BoC) and the Carroll County Delegation will hold a joint listening session regarding the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Carroll County Agriculture Center, 706 Agricultural Center Dr, Westminster, MD 21157.
All five Carroll County Commissioners and all six members of the Carroll County Delegation (me, Delegates Bouchat, Rose & Tomlinson, Senator West & Delegate Stonko) oppose the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project. This meeting and listening session is an opportunity for the public to voice their concerns and for us to share more about our local and state level efforts to stop this project’s trajectory and move this line off of farm land and private property. We want to propose better solutions to the issues that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has raised.
Please save the date, Thursday, August 22, 2024, with the meeting at 6:00 PM.
ICYMI: MPRP Update – Some Good News
I was able to share some good news last week in our fight against MPRP and the utility PSEG. The Maryland Office of People’s Counsel (which represents consumers in front of the Public Service Commission, the entity that would have to approve MPRP) has come out raising serious questions about this project and calling for PJM (the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s regional grid authority) to take a step back and reevaluate how they calculate actual demand and need for this and other electric lines that are planned in the future for other parts of the state.
To read more about these recent developments, click here. This link also features a lot of detail about the overall issue of electric generation, land use and more.
Carroll County 4-H Fair Continues through Tomorrow Night (Friday, August 2nd):
It was great to be at the opening of 127th Annual Carroll County 4-H & FFA Fair on Saturday and my kids had a great time Tuesday at the children’s activities. From farm equipment displays to 4H entries of all kinds to fun contests there’s nothing like the Carroll County Fair. It’s going on for two more nights – today and tomorrow (Friday, August 2nd). Get details here – https://www.carrollcountyfair.com/. Hope you can make it out if you haven’t already!
Support Kim Klacik- Candidate for Congress August 20th
Kim Klacik, the Republican nominee for Congressional District 2 – which covers most of Carroll County – is hosting a fundraiser on August 20th at the Lost Lion in Westminster. Kim is a strong conservative who has the support of President Trump and other Republicans around the country. She has my full support. By the way, she has come out against MPRP as well while her opponent – Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski has remained curiously silent on the issue. I hope you can make it to her event to show support for the Republican nominee. Details below:
Support Local Volunteer Fire Department Carnivals
There are still two more carnivals hosted by local volunteer fire departments in Carroll County this summer. This is a great opportunity to show support for the men and women who will run into a burning building to save people they do not even know. Below are a list of the final two summer carnivals coming to Carroll County:
7/29 – 8/03 Mount Airy Fire Company
8/05 – 8/10 Hampstead Fire Company
Have a great week ahead!
