Sharing some news with you out of Carroll County as well as voter registration deadlines for the primary election and upcoming events.
Two quick items:
First - wanted to remind you about my Annual Breakfast Fundraiser THIS coming Tuesday, June 14th, 7:30-9:30 AM in Hampstead at Greenmount Station. This is going to be a great event for networking, updating you on what's happening in the 2022 Campaign and quick recap of the 2022 Legislative Session that concluded in April. You can get information about the event and purchase tickets/make a contribution by clicking here. Funds raised will go to helping elect/re-elect strong conservative leaders up and down the ballot locally and around the state.
Second - If you requested an absentee ballot for the July 19th Primary before May 28th, your ballot is being mailed to you today by the Maryland State Board of Elections (you'll probably receive it early next week). I would ask for your support for me and my District 5 endorsed candidates for House of Delegates - April Rose & Chris Tomlinson, as well as Haven Shoemaker for Carroll County State's Attorney and the "BMW" Slate for Board of Education - Battaglia, Miller & Whisler. Thank you for your consideration and as always, feel free to reach out with questions about the ballot.
Carroll County News:
Carroll County School Board Adopts New Flag Policy - Excludes political and social-themed flags
On Wednesday, the Carroll County School Board voted 4-1 in favor of a new flag policy. Earlier this spring, LGBTQ rainbow flags were sent to schools by an outside advocacy group with the express purpose of being handed out to teachers to display in their classroom. The superintendent of the school system approved this without the knowledge of the Board of Education. In my view, and in the view of those who contacted me, this directly violated the Board of Education's very clear neutrality policy about bringing political stances into the classroom and curriculum. I would feel the same way about the school system allowing for flag distribution about something like 2nd Amendment rights, a political candidate or a religious symbol. Schools are not the place for outside advocacy groups to war with each other.
The new policy approved this week, will prohibit all flags on school property except the Maryland flag, the Carroll County flag, and flags that are used as a part of a temporary unit of study within the approved curriculum, flags or banners that denote a recognition of achievement and are approved by the Superintendent, sport tournament banners recognizing the participation of a school team, and banners from colleges or universities or professional sports teams. I fully support this decision. This policy will allow for CCPS teachers, administrators and staff to remain politically neutral and keep conversations in line with content and instructional objectives. The recommendation or offering of an item singling out one issue violates this new policy.
Maryland State Board of Elections Announcement - Deadline to Register to Vote in Primary is June 28th
The Maryland State Board of Elections (SBE) is encouraging eligible voters interested in casting a ballot in July’s primary election to register to vote online. SBE is also urging those who are already registered to confirm their latest district and polling place information using the online voter lookup tool.
The deadline to register to vote in the 2022 Primary Election is Tuesday, June 28th. Those using the online registration system must submit their completed voter registration application by 11:59 p.m. on that date. To ensure applications are completed and received by 11:59 p.m., SBE advises voters to access the online system no later than 11:50 p.m. on June 28. Those who prefer not to register to vote online may print this registration form and return it by mail or do so at the office of their local board of elections by 5 p.m. on June 28.
Following the recent redistricting process, county district, state legislative district and congressional district information – as well as polling place information – for some registered voters has changed. For this reason, it is important that all registered voters confirm their current district and polling place information online or by calling or visiting the office of their local board of elections.
NOTE - in my next Ready Report - I plan to revisit the new district maps in Carroll County for State Legislature, Congress and Commissioner to remind people of the changes as I know it has been very confusing.
