MD Senate & House Republicans’ Crime Package - Go After the Bad Guys!

The Senate & House Republican Caucuses have rolled out several bills during the 2021 Session – including one of my own - that would make certain crimes a felony, create a new unit in the state attorney general’s office, and close loopholes that have been exploited by repeat violent criminals. We held a press conference this week highlighting the provisions. The following bills have been introduced by GOP lawmakers this year as part of this package:

  • SB 560 –My bill that bumps the charge of theft of a handgun to a felony charge with a minimum sentence
  • HB 678 – Crimes of Violence – Parole (Stopping Dangerous and Violent Criminals Act of 2021) – Alters parole eligibility for inmates sentenced for a violent crime
  • HB 1236 – Violent Crimes Special Prosecution Unit for Baltimore City
  • SB 852 – Crimes – Procedures (Violent Firearms Offender Act of 2021) – Alters provisions and penalties pertaining to several firearms-related offenses
