First, I want to wish you, your family and friends a wonderful and happy Independence Day.  While I think we all know in our hearts that freedom is NOT free and that we are blessed to live in this great country, the July 4th Independence Day celebrations are a great reminder and a cause for celebration. Freedom is also not guaranteed, we have to work to maintain and grow it. We are all indebted to those who went before us and paved the way to where we are today. Finally, no matter how we feel day to day about specific things that may be happening in politics or our culture, we should always be thankful for the privilege of being Americans - and the responsibility to pass it down to our children and grandchildren. God bless you this weekend and God Bless America!

Fair Maps Maryland Launches:

Fair Maps Maryland, a new, independent, nonpartisan organization advocating for a fair redistricting process, launched Thursday with a website and a 60-second digital ad highlighting Maryland's reputation as one of the most gerrymandered states in the country.

Fair Maps Maryland is dedicated to abolishing politically motivated gerrymandering and for the full implementation of a nonpartisan redistricting plan. Specifically, Fair Maps Maryland is working to ensure that the electoral maps created by the Maryland Citizens Redistricting Commission are accepted by the Maryland General Assembly and enacted into law.

Created by Executive Order, the Maryland Citizens Redistricting Commission is tasked with creating fair electoral maps. However, there is no guarantee that the Maryland General Assembly will accept the new maps and enact them into law. While many legislators readily acknowledge that gerrymandering needs to end and voting is a civil rights issue, many refuse to do anything about it.
