I hope that you, your family and friends had a relaxing and fun Thanksgiving weekend.  The 2023 Legislative Session is fast approaching, scheduled to begin January 11, 2023 at noon.  My team and I are busy working with our local community and interest groups on drafting bills ahead of time.  There will be some big issues that will dominate the upcoming session including education policies, the state budget, rules surrounding newly legalized marijuana, the opioid/heroin epidemic, and dealing with the violent crime that still is surging in parts of our state. I look forward to rolling out my legislative priorities in the coming weeks.

Senator Ready Re-Elected Republican Whip

This past Monday, the Senate Republican Caucus met to begin working towards the Legislative Session and to help acclimate new members.  I was honored to be re-elected the Senate Minority Whip again this year.  I will be working along Minority Leader Steve Hershey who represents parts of Kent, Queen Anne’s, Cecil and Caroline Counties.  Here is link to the press release from the Maryland Senate GOP here.

FYI: Setting Legislative Priorities

Part of getting ready for the upcoming Session involves meeting with local organizations. On Wednesday for instance, I met with Carroll Hospital in the morning, to discuss their priorities, followed by an afternoon meeting with Carroll County Board of Education. Then on Friday members of our Carroll County Delegation and I met with the Carroll County Association of Realtors. It’s important to sit down ahead of Session so we can be aware of needs and concerns.
