Carroll County Delegation Discusses 2021 Legislation
Earlier this week, the Carroll County Times highlighted the delegation’s focus and priorities for the current session. Many of the bills we’re focused on are ones that didn’t get passed last year because of the shortened session. To read the entire article, click here.
Finance Committee Assignment
Last week Senate standing committee assignments were announced. After serving on the Judicial Proceedings Committee for six years, I am pleased to be taking on a new challenge. Beginning with the 2021 Session, I have moved to the Finance Committee. The Finance Committee considers legislation that relates to banks and financial institutions, commercial law, consumer protection, credit regulation, economic and community development, and health and welfare matters. Also reviewed by the Committee are bills concerned with insurance, labor and employment, lotteries and horse racing, and transportation. Recently, Maryland Matters published an article discussing committee assignments in the Senate.
The 2020 Election has shed a bright light on voter fraud and election security. I have consistently supported transparent and secure election processes. I am submitting legislation this year to require voter ID to cast a ballot. The bill will allow several forms of ID as options. Over 30 states require some kind of identification for voting. It’s a simple way to help guarantee the legitimacy of our voters. This should not be controversial!
