I have great news! On Friday night, the Sanctuary State bill was defeated in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee - which I sit on. The sponsor of the bill withdrew the legislation when it became clear that the votes were not there to pass it. This is a victory for the rule of law, the justice system, and the people of
Maryland - and it would not have happened without you!
Without you signing petitions, calling legislators, and making your voice heard, this thing might very well have been forced through over mine and other Senators opposition.
The ability for local law enforcement to cooperate with federal authorities in dealing with illegal immigrants who’ve been arrested for other criminal activity or are being released from jail sentences is critical. I am very happy to report that the bill will not be advancing.

Monday is the final day of the 2017 General Assembly Session and we'll be going until midnight tomorrow. It's the bottom of the 9th and there are two outs - I'm working overtime to close this Session out strong and not let any other bad bills get through.
It is an honor to serve you in Annapolis. I look forward to relaying more good news to you in the future. Feel free to contact me anytime at [email protected].
