Good evening -
Thanksgiving begins with the simple yet important idea that we take time to count our blessings. We thank God for what He has given us, even as we experience an incredibly difficult year. I know I am incredibly thankful for my wife Ruth, children Brookly and Caleb, family and friends - as well as the opportunity to serve you in the State Senate and work on the issues that are important to all of us. I want to wish you, your family, and friends a very Happy Thanksgiving.
If I can be helpful to you or your family, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or call my office at 410-841-3683. Our office will be closed for the Thanksgiving weekend, back Monday.
Sheriff Jim DeWees Message on Latest COVID Announcements
I've heard questions and concerns from many constituents since the Governor's announcements earlier this week about enforcement measures surrounding COVID 19 health protocols. I had the same concerned reaction about the scope and tenor of these enforcement measures - as well as the phone line about complaints which I feel could be abused. I reached out directly to our primary law enforcement leader in Carroll County- Sheriff Jim DeWees and he shared with me how he and his department are operating - thanks for your responsiveness Sheriff! (His response is here below):
"In Carroll County we will continue to do what we’ve been doing since the pandemic hit. We’ve found great success by merely working with businesses and citizens on how to stay healthy and have had no problems with gaining compliance through quality communication.
Carroll County is not considered a hot spot because the overwhelming majority of our citizens understand what needs to be done to stop the spread. I have no intentions of having my deputies respond to houses to break up Thanksgiving dinner. In fact, absent probable cause, exigent circumstances or a warrant, I have no authority to even come onto your property to investigate.
Please know that I take the privacy of citizens very seriously. I’m also taking COVID seriously and believe there is a balance that needs to be met. I’m not sure what’s going on in other parts of the state, but in Carroll County our approach has been very successful.
God bless and have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family.
Sheriff Jim DeWees"
